Aroch Aryeh (1908 - 1974)

An artist of emigration, painter. Born in Kharkiv. In 1924 he and his family emigrated to Israel. He studied at Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts in Jerusalem; for some time he attended the art studio of I. Zaritsky and the Academy of F. Colarossi in Paris (under the direction of F. Leger). In 1948 he co-founded the group "New Horizons". Until 1950 he had worked in the expressionist manner, but in the course of time turned to folk motifs and created his own style. In the years of 1950 1970 he was in the diplomatic service, and was the first secretary of the Israeli Embassy in Moscow. Later was the Ambassador to Brazil and Sweden. The Winner of the State Israel Prize (1971).
