Vereshchaghyn Sergiy Vasylyovych (1845 - 1877)

Younger brother of the famous Russian artist V. Vereshchaghyn. Born in the town of Cherepovets, Novgorod province. He studied in St. Petersburg at the Drawing School of the Society of Petersburg Artists. He traveled to the Caucasus with the purpose of artistic inspiration (1864 - 1867). Later he went to Paris, where he worked a lot and fruitfully in a private studio of the famous artist and teacher A. Jerome. He took part in the Russian-Turkish campaign (1877), was an orderly with the Russian Army Commander General M. Skobelyev. Heroically died during the assault of Plevna on August 30, 1877. After his death he was awarded the George Cross. The graphic works and paintings of the artist could hardly be found.
