Vidhof (Vidhopf) Davyd Osypovych (1867 - 1933)

An artist of emigration, painter, graphic artist, also worked in the field of decorative and applied arts. Born in Odessa. He studied at Odessa Drawing School, then - at Munich Academy of Arts. Around 1890 he moved to Paris, had a long-time collaboration with popular periodicals, and was engaged in book graphics. After 1910 he turned down to easel painting and graphics. His works are exhibited at the Autumn Salon, the Salon of the Independent and the Tuileries in Paris. In 1912 he participated in the exhibition of Russian art in the Devambez Gallery. In the 1920Хs - 1930's he painted the interiors and collaborated with the Beauvais Tapestry Factory to the order of which he created the sketches and cardboards. His solo exhibitions in the Parisian galleries "Bloot", "Bernheim", "Veile" and others were a great success. Still in his lifetime he received recognition in the European art circles and was awarded the Legion of Honor and other orders.
