Geghamyan Valerii Arutyunovych (1925 - 2000)

Armenian and Ukrainian painter and graphic artist. Born in the village of Garni, Armenia. In the early 1940Хs he studied at Yerevan Art School, where his art talents were noticed by M. Sariyan. From 1945 to 1951 he was learning arts from M. Sariyan at Yerevan Art Institute. In 1953 he moved to Moscow, where on his teacherХs recommendations worked as a leading artist in the monumental painting section of the Art Fund of the USSR. In 1957 he went to Birobidzhan (the Far East) and taught at a local Art School. In 1958 he settled in Makhachkala, worked as a teacher of painting, drawing and composition at the senior courses of Mahachkala Art School n.a. M. Jemal. Since early 1960Хs he had lived and worked in Odessa. In 1964 became the founder and the dean (1965 - 1968) of the art and graphic faculty at Odessa Pedagogical Institute, where he had worked for over 20 years. His disciples were P. Lykov, V. Ryabchenko, S. Roitburd, V. Pokydanets and other famous artists. In 2001 the memorial exhibition was held at Odessa Art Museum. Author of monumental canvases, large narrative cycli and graphic series. Painted portraits, landscapes, and still lifes.
