Gerasymov Oleksandr Mykhailovych (1881 - 1963)

Afamous Russian painter and graphic artist. Born in the town of Kozlov, Kaluga region. He studied at Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture: first at painting faculty where he was learning arts from A. Arkhipov, N. Kasatkin and K. Korovin (1903 - 1910), then at the architecture faculty (1910 - 1915). Participant of the exhibitions since 1907. Member of the Association "Free Art",the  Association of the Artists of Revolution and the Association of the Artists of Revolutionary Russia. From 1949 to 1960 led the art studio of painting at the Academy of Arts of the USSR in Leningrad. In 1951 he received the degree of Doctor of Arts. In the years of 1937 - 1939 - Chairman of Moscow Branch of the Artists' Union of the RSFSR. Full-fledged member (1947) and President of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1947 - 1957). People's Artist of the USSR. Winner of the USSR State Prizes (1941, 1943, 1946 and 1949). In 1958 he was awarded a bronze medal of the World Exhibition in Brussels. Author of landscapes, still lifes, history paintings, portraits of prominent figures in politics, science and culture. He worked in the field of book graphics. His works are presented in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and other art museums.
