Gurin Vasyl Ivanovych (1939)

A Ukrainian painter. Born in the village of Pervomaysk, the Crimea. From 1954 to 1959 he studied at Simferopol Art School, and in the years of 1959 - 1965 he studied at Kyiv Art Institute under the tutelage of K. Trokhymenko, V. Zabashta, L. Chichkan. During 1966 - 1968 he worked in the art studios of the USSR Academy of Arts in Kyiv under the guidance of S. Grigoriev. Member of republican and all-Union Exhibitions in Kyiv since 1965. Member of the National Artists Union since 1968. Since 1969 he has been teaching at the Department of painting of Kyiv Art Institute, professor since 1987. Honored artist since 1979 and Honored Arts Worker of the UkrSSR since 1985. People's Artist of Ukraine since 1992, full-fledged member of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts since 1997. Chairman of the Kyiv Branch of the National Artists Union (1997 - 2005). In 1998 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the 3rd degree. Author of narrative paintings, landscapes and still lifes. The works are presented in the NAMU, Kyiv History Museum and other museums in Ukraine.
