Deineka Oleksandr Oleksandrovych (1899 - 1969)

A Russian painter, graphic artist, monumental sculptor. Born in Kursk. He studied at Kharkiv Art School (1915 - 1917) and at the Higher Art and Technical Studios (1920 - 1925) under the guidance of V. Favorskyi and I. Nyvinskyi. A founding member of the Society of Easel-Painters (1925 - 1928), exhibitor of the Association "October" (1928 - 1930), Russian Association of Proletarian Artists (1931 - 1932). He taught at Moscow art institutes. Professor (since 1940). People's Artist of the USSR (1936), member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1947), Vice President of the Academy of Arts (1962 - 1966), Hero of Socialist Labor (1969), Lenin Prize Winner (1964). Lived and worked in Kursk, Kharkiv and Moscow. One of the greatest artists of socialist realism.
