Egiz Boris (Borukh) Isakovych (1869 - 1947)

A Russian painter, graphic artist, master of salon portraits, genre scenes and landscapes. Born in Odessa in the family of Karaites, hereditary honorary citizen. From 1886 till 1890 he studied at Odessa Art School under the guidance of K. Kostandi. In 1890 he entered St. Petersburg Art Academy (taught by P. Chistyakov), in 1893 he left the academy, receiving the title of extra-class artist. He attended the classes in the Academy of R. Julien and F. Colarossi in Paris. He was a member of Odessa Union of Fine Arts and was a board member and secretary of the Society of southern Russian artists. He taught in secondary schools in Odessa. In 1917 together with K. Kostandi he was elected a representative of the Society of southern Russian artists in Odessa Union of Plastic Arts Workers. Since 1920 he lived and worked in Constantinople, in 1929 in Paris, since 1930 in Vilnius.
