Ivanov Sergiy Petrovych (1893 - 1983)

A Russian painter and graphic artist. Born in Moscow. In the years of 1903 - 1917 he studied at Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In 1921 he graduated from St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (under the guidance of V. Kozlynskyy, D. Kardovskyy, O. Braz). In 1922 through Finland he emigrated to France. During 1922 - 1950 he lived in Paris. Since 1928 he exhibited in the salons: Tuileries, Autumn salon, National Society of Fine Arts. He worked as a theatrical artist, illustrator, painted portraits, nudes, landscapes and still lives. Author of portraits of A. Benois (The State Russian Museum), I. Ivanov, N. Goncharova, Serge Lifar. From 1930 till 1940 he cooperated with such magazines as Illustration, Plaisir de France. He painted for the editions of high fashion houses of Edward Molyneux, Elsa Schiaparelli, Jeanne Paquin. During these years, he travelled around Europe, Brazil, Argentina. His personal exhibitions took place in Parisian galleries - de La Chaussee d'Antin (1942) and Borghese (1945), the Museum of Chartres (1943). In 1947 his exhibitions were held in Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires. In the years of 1951 - 1960 he lived in the U.S., where there were two solo exhibitions in San Francisco (1951 and 1954). In early 1960s he returned to Paris, there he took part in the exhibition "Russian artists of the Paris School" (1962). He was awarded the Gold Medal of the National union of Fine Arts. In Paris, there was held a series of memorial exhibitions (1985, 1989, 1993, 1995 and 1997). His works are kept in the Carnavalet Museum and the National Library in Paris, in the Vatican Art Museum and in the Art Museum of the USA, in the State Russian Museum and the Hermitage.
