Izhakevych Ivan Sydorovych (1864 - 1962)

An outstanding Ukrainian artist. He worked in the fields of the easel and monumental painting, book illustration. Born in the village of Vyshnopoli, Cherkasy region. He studied at the icon painting workshops in Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (1876 - 1882), Kyiv Drawing School under the guidance of M. Murashko (1882 - 1884) and St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Author of a number of paintings of Ukrainian historical theme, illustrations to the works of Taras Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka, Ivan Kotlyarevskyi, Ivan Franko and numerous drawings devoted to the theme of national life. He participated in the restoration of frescoes in the Cyrilivska Church and painting of Vsihsvyatska and Pokrovska churches. People's Artist of Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic since 1951. His works are presented in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the Art Museum of Zaporizhzhya and in other museums of Ukraine.
