Iljin Petro Olexandrovych (1887 - 1950)

A Russian foreign artist, painter and graphic artist. Born in Kazan. Belonged to an aristocratic family. The brother of the artist G. Iljin. He studied at Kazan real school under the guidance of the painter and architect H. Pashkovskyy, then - in St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. By 1905 he was quite a famous artist. During the First World War he served as a pilot. Being a monarchist to his convictions, after the Revolution, he emigrated with his wife, the artist N. Iljina, and his brother to the city of Harbin (Manchuria) and further - to Tokyo. Since 1922 he lived and worked in San Francisco. He participated in numerous exhibitions. His personal exhibitions were held in Tokyo (1921, 1922), San Francisco (1924 - 1950), Chicago (1939). He was full of vitality in an artistic and civil ways. He was a member of the California bohemian club, the Union called "Good sense in the Arts," California Art Club. He was awarded numerous awards and prizes, including the second (1927) and the third (1934) prizes at the state exhibitions in California (1927 - 1941), the first prize (1940) and the Prize "For the repute" (1947) at the exhibitions at the Art Museum "California Palace of Honor Legion "(San Francisco). Author of portraits, landscapes and scene compositions. He was occupied in illustration. He corresponded a lot with the artists from the UK and Russia, he was the author of annotations to their albums and exhibition catalogues. A large number of documents related to the life and work of the master, is in the archives of the California Historic Society. His works are presented in the Museum of Arts of Nevada in Reno, the Capitol in Carson City, Memorial Library of Doheny (University of Southern California), in the Art Museums of San Francisco, Chicago, Sacramento (California), etc.
