A Famous Russian artist, landscape painter. In the years of 1867 - 1870 he studied at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts under the guidance of S. Vorobjov and M. Klodt. In 1876 he received the title of the 1st degree class artist. Since 1878 - academician, since 1881 - professor of the Academy of Arts. In 1880 he traveled to Russia and Europe a lot. During1880 - 1881 he studied landscape painting in Germany. In the years of 1882 - 1885 in St. Petersburg there were held four of his solo exhibitions. Member - founder of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions in St. Petersburg (1874 - 1885). He participated in the exhibitions of Moscow Society of Art Lovers, the Society for the Promotion of Artists, Petersburg artistsÕ union, the World Exhibition in Vienna (1873), the international exhibitions in Philadelphia (1876), Berlin, Munich, in Paris Salons (1882, 1884). He lived in St. Petersburg, Belarus, Baltic. He taught in his own studio in Riga. The landscapes of the master were of great demand and were the subject of collecting at the end of the •§•th century. In particular, several works were purchased to his own collection by P. Tretyakov. His works are presented in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and many other museums of Russia and Europe.
