Kovalenko Yuriy Andriyovych (1931 - 2004)

A Ukrainian painter and theatre artist. Born in Pryluky, Chernihiv region. He studied at Odessa Theatre and Art School (1952 - 1959)  and at Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinema (1965 - 1969) under the guidance of M. Akymov, I. Korotkov and  V. Hovralyeva. In the years of 1959 - 1965 he worked at Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre and  at Odessa Music and Drama Theatre.  During 1971 - 1981 he taught at Odessa Art School named after M. Grekov. He took part in the exhibitions since 1968. His personal exhibitions took place in Odessa (1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1984), Ismail (1983), Bulgaria (1972) and Hungary (1979). One of the brightest representatives of nonconformism. In 2000 there was published the book by O. Gubarev under the title "The Man from Tyraspolska Street " dedicated to Y. Kovalenko. His works are stored in the Art Museum and in the Museum of Modern Art of Odessa, etc.
