Cortazzo Oreste (1836 - 1898)

An Italian and French painter and engraver. Born in Rome. He studied under the guidance of the famous artist L. Bonn in Paris. In 1879 - 1883 he exhibited genre compositions in numerous Parisian salons that brought him fame and recognition. He participated in the World Exhibitions in Paris (1878, 1889); at the last one he was awarded a medal. He reached high skill in the art of engraving. For a long time he worked with the largest publishing house "Hupil and company" in France, due to that he created a great series of photogravures from his own paintings, which became widely known throughout the world. He lived mainly in Paris; he traveled a lot across Italy and Spain. Master of secular scenes, portraits, romantic images of women. His works are presented in the Museum of Fine Arts in San Francisco, in many Art Museums of Italy and France.
