Kraynev Danylo Karpovych (1872 - 1949)

A Russian and Ukrainian painter. Born in the village of Bosarevo, Kaluga Province. During 1883 - 1890 he studied at Odessa Drawing School, from 1890 till 1894 - at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. In 1891 he received the second silver medal, in 1892 the second and the first silver medals, in 1893 - the first silver medal. In 1897 he was awarded the title of the artist for the painting "Rasskaz" (The Story). In 1898 he was sent abroad as a pensioner of the Academy of Arts. In 1900 he participated in scientific expedition led by academician M. Kondakov. He taught at Odessa Art School since 1901. Member of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions since 1916. In Soviet times, he led active exhibition and teaching activities. Member and exhibitor of the Society named after K. Kostandi (1925 - 1929). During 1931 - 1934 he taught at Mykolayiv Art College, since 1935 - at Odessa Art School (professor - since 1935). Honored Artist of the USSR since 1941. In the years of 1942 - 1943 he exhibited his works at the Romanian Salonul Oficial, continued teaching. Author of the articles devoted to historical painting.
