Maas Dirk (1659 - 1717)

A Dutch painter and engraver. Born in Haarlem, the Netherlands. He studied in Haarlem under the guidance of H. Mommers and N. Berchem. He was much affected by J. Huhtenburh. He worked in Haarlem (since 1697 - member of the guild of painters of Haarlem), in the Hague (since 1697 - member of the guild) and in London. He painted mostly scenes from the life of the military men, hunting scenes and landscapes with genre elements. His works are kept in the State Hermitage and in the collections of leading European museums.
