Nesterov Mykhailo Vasylyovych (1862 - 1942)

A Russian painter and graphic artist. Born in Ufa, in the merchant family. From 1877 he studied at Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under the guidance of V. Perov, A. Savrasov, I. Pryanishnikov, from 1881 till 1884 - at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts under the guidance of P. Chistyakov. In 1886 he received a large silver medal and the title of the class painter, in 1887 the Award of the Society for the Promotion of Artists. He went to Italy, Greece, France and Germany. Member of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions since 1896, one of the founders of the Union of Russian Artists. He participated in the decoration of the Volodymyr Cathedral in Kyiv. Since 1898 - Academician, since 1910 - member of the Academy of Arts. Honored Artist of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (1942). He lived in Moscow and Kyiv (1890 - 1910). He worked at historical and religious themes.
