Nilus Petro Olexandrovych (1869 - 1943)

A Ukrainian painter, graphic artist, writer and art critic. He studied at Odessa Drawing School (1883 - 1889) under the guidance of K. Kostandi, later - at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Active worker of the Society of southern Russian artists, since 1891 - exhibitor, and since 1899 Ð member of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions. In 1890s he visited Germany, Austria, Italy, France. In 1917, in Odessa, he was elected a chairman of the newly formed Union of Painters, sculptors and architects. Since 1920 he lived in emigration. Author of landscapes and genre paintings. His works are presented in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, Odessa Art Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Literary Museum in Moscow, etc.
