Nowakiwskyy Olexa Varlampiyovych (1872 - 1935)

A Ukrainian painter. Born in the village of Obodivka, Vinnitsa region. He received hos elementary art education in Odessa (1888 - 1892), where he studied under the guidance of F. Klymenko. In 1900 he graduated from Krakow Academy of Arts under the guidance of V. Luschkevych and Y. Stanislavskyy. Since 1913 he lived and worked in Lviv, where he founded the art school (1923). Author of landscapes, religious compositions, portraits, still lives. In 1970 in Lviv the Art Memorial Museum of A. Nowakiwskyy was opened. His works are also presented in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, Lviv National Museum, Krakow Art Museums and in many others.
