Prakhov Mykola Adrianovych (1873 - 1957)

A Ukrainian painter and art critic. The son of the famous art critic Professor A. Prakhov. Born in Rome, since 1883 he lived in Kyiv. Since 1986 he worked as an artist in the field of arts and crafts. In spring of 1905 he for the first time presented his works in St. Petersburg at the exhibition of the New union of artists, among the founders of which were of O. Murashko and B. Kustodiev. From 1906 till 1912 he lived and worked on the Capri Island. In 1911 he participated in the exhibitions in Rome and Turin. Throughout all his life, Italy was a special source of inspiration for M. Prakhova, there he created his best paintings, graphic works and decorative compositions. In 1917 together with O. Murashko, M. Kozyk, P.Zhalko-Tytarenko he participated in the organization of "The Union of professional artists of Kyiv". Since 1919 he served as a chairman of the Union of artists, was a member of the editorial board of Education and the Department of Arts of "Derzhkomvydav", head of the Ukrainian Council of Arts. In 1940s he was the head of the department of the art industry of Kyiv Museum of the Russian Art, at the end of his life he worked in the Section of criticism and art history of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
