Svitoslavskyy Sergiy Ivanovych (1857 - 1931)

An outstanding Ukrainian painter. Born in Kyiv. He was an auditor in Petersburg Academy of Arts. From 1875 till 1883 he studied at Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under the guidance of V. Petrov and A. Savrasov. Since 1891 - Member of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions. During 1905 - 1907 he collaborated with the magazine "ShershenÕ" (ÒThe hornetÓ). Skilful colourist. He lived and worked in Kyiv. He painted landscapes with lively genre or animalistic scenes. The majority of his paintings is devoted to Ukraine, to the landscapes of the Dnieper and the Crimea.
