Trush Ivan Ivanovych (1869 - 1941)

An outstanding Ukrainian painter and art critic. Born in the village of Vysotske, Lviv region. From 1891 till 1897 he studied at Krak_w Academy of Arts under the guidance of Y. Matejko Y. Stanislavsky. Since 1900 he taught painting and drawing in Kyiv Drawing School of M. Murashko. He initiated the creation of the artistic groups ÒThe Society for the development of the Russian Thing" (1898) and "The society of the supporters of Ukrainian literature, science and stuff "(1904). In 1905 he took an active part in organizing the 1st Ukrainian exhibition in Lviv and in the edition of the first Ukrainian magazine of art criticism "Artistic Bulletin". He made trips to Italy, Egypt, and Palestine. Master of lyrical landscape, thematic picture and portrait. Author of numerous literary and artistic critical articles. In 1986 in Lviv there was opened the Memorial Museum of Art of I. Trush. His works are presented in Lviv National Museum, the National Art Museum of Ukraine, etc.
