Feldman Valentyn Avgustovych (1864 - 1928)

A Russian and Ukrainian artist, architect. Born in the suburbs of St. Petersburg. From 1883 till 1889 he studied at the architectural department of St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, he was awarded two silver medals and one gold medal. He took lessons in watercolor painting from N. Gogolynskyy and L. Premazzi. Member of the Society of Russian watercolorists (1880 - 1918), the Union of the artists of Kyiv (1914 - 1919), the Society of Kyiv artists (1916 - 1918). Exhibitor of the Society of southern Russian artists (1901, 1912, 1913). Since 1890 almost every year he participated in the exhibitions of watercolor painting in St. Petersburg, Sevastopol, Kharkiv, Odessa. He lived and worked in Sevastopol, Kharkiv, Kyiv. He taught at Kharkiv Technological Institute (1905 - 1910), Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (1910 - 1922), Architectural Institute (1922 - 1924) and Art Institute (1924 - 1928). His memorial exhibition was held in Kyiv in 1940. He issued a number of theoretical studies of the techniques of watercolor and drawing. Among his architectural works are the Pokrovskyy Cathedral and the Church of Nativity in Sevastopol, the building of the panorama "The Defense of Sevastopol in 1854 - 1855", the Monument to the Sunk Ships, etc. Master of fine watercolors that depict nature and architecture of Ukraine. His works are presented in the Art Museums of Odessa, Sevastopol, Penza, in the Art Museum of the Far East, and in many others.
