Hafften Carl (1834 - 1884)

A famous German painter, a brilliant representative of the academic direction of the Western European art. Born in Wismar, Germany. He received art education in Munich Academy of Arts. He traveled a lot to England, America, Australia. To improve his skills he was sent to Italy. Since 1874 he lived and worked in Berlin. His works were exhibited at the academic exhibitions in Dresden (1873) and Berlin (1877). The marines performed in the style of academic romanticism were the most popular among his contemporaries. He painted landscape views and compositions on historical topics. His works are kept in the museums and private collections of the Western and Eastern Europe.
