Chemisov Olexander Dmytrovych (1885 - 1969)
A Ukrainian and Russian painter and graphic artist. Born in Dmytrovsk, Orel province. He studied painting at the School of Drawing at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1909 - 1913). In pre-revolutionary years, he moved to Odessa. He continued his education at Odessa Polytechnic Institute (1921 - 1927), studied under the guidance of P. Volokydin, T. Dvornykov, V. Zauze. In 1928 there was the first solo exhibition in Odessa. During the occupation by fascist troops he remained in Odessa. He was engaged in teaching, participated in the exhibition of Odessa artists in 1942. A considerable number of his works is stored in Odessa Art Museum, in the House-Museum of Nicholas Roerich in Odessa and in many other museums and private collections.
