Shcherbakov Valentyn Semenovych (1880 - 1957)

A Russian artist and restorer, stage designer, painter of decorative art. Born in Kazan. From 1901 till 1909 he studied at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts under the guidance of I. Repin and F. Roubo. Visiting the studio of art equipment and technology under the supervision of Professor D. Kiplyk, he studied the works of old masters and thoroughly mastered the forgotten technique of fresco painting. After graduating the Academy of Arts he worked on orders for decorating churches (led by the architect A. Schusev). Since 1910 he participated in the exhibitions. From 1919 till 1920 he lived in Kazan. He was an art director of Kazan Opera and Ballet Theatre. Author of numerous sketches of scenery and costumes for performances. After his return to Petrograd he worked on sketches for painting dinner sets at Lomonosov Porcelain Factory. Member and exhibitor of the Society named after A.Kuindzhi (1920) and the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (1924). After the World War II he restored architectural monuments. Master of genre scenes and portraits. His works are stored in the State Tretyakov Gallery, Kazan Art Museum, Lomonosov Porcelain Factory Museum, etc.
