A Ukrainian painter, theatre and movie artist. He was born in Kremenchug, Poltava province. In the years of 1917 - 1919 he studied at the Art School in Kharkiv and at Kyiv Art Academy. In 1921 he arrived in Paris. In 1922 he attended classes at the Academy of Grande Chaumière. Since 1923 he lived in "La Rush". He painted portraits, nudes, landscapes, still lives, scenes of theatrical life, bullfighting. He participated in many group exhibitions of Russian artists in Paris galleries together with H. Sutin, P. Kremen, N. Oryk, V. Naydych and with the groups “Udar” ("Beat") and “Chysla” ("Numbers"). He worked as a theatre artist, performing stage scenery and sketches of costumes. In 1936 he had a solo exhibition in New York. In 1943 together with J. Braque, A. Deren and other artists he took part in the Intimite exhibition. In 1944 he settled in Montparnasse. Since 1946 he worked for the ballet company "Russkie balety" (“Russian Ballets”). In the postwar years he had solo exhibitions in the galleries of A. Maurice (1952, 1958) and Serret-Fauveau (1963, 1965, 1967, 1972), participated in the group exhibitions: "La Rush" (gallery Montparnasse, 1960), "Russian artists of Paris School "(The House of French thought, 1961)," Russian View "(Heidelberg, 1974). Posthumously his works were presented at the exhibitions of "La Rush” and “Montparnasse" in the museum of Jacquemart-André (1978) and "Mad thirties" in the Grand Palace (1979). In 1984 the retrospective exhibition was held at the gallery of Ñîllette Dubois. In 1980s his widow donated several of the artist’s works to the State Art Museum and to the Sate Russian Museum.
