Katurkin Timophiy Illich (1887 - 1957)

A Russian painter and graphic artist. Born in the village of Peperovo, Tula Province. From 1904 till 1909 he studied at Odessa Art School, during 1909 - 1916 – at the High Art School in Petersburg Academy of Arts in the studio of V. Makovskyy. In 1916 he won the title of the artist. Since 1911 he participated in the exhibitions of the Academy of Arts, the Society of southern Russian artists (1911), «The community of artists» (secretary - since 1916), the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions (1918), the exhibition of the works by Moscow and Leningrad artists (1937), all-Union Exhibition The industry of socialism (1939) in Moscow, etc. He was a member of the committee which organized the exhibitions in the Academy of Arts (1916 - 1918). He lived in Tula and Belyov (1918 - 1930), Leningrad (1930 - 1940) and Moscow (1940 - 1957). In the years of 1945 - 1949 he was the head of the government Vsekohudozhnyka. From 1951 till 1957 he taught at Moscow Art Industrial School named after M. Kalinin. He painted thematic paintings, nudes and landscapes. His works are kept in the State Museum of Political History of Russia in St. Petersburg and other Russian Art Museums.
