Tchistovsky Lev Smaragdovych (Tchistovsky Lev, 1902 - 1969)

A representative of the Russian abroad, painter and graphic artist. He was born in Pskov. From 1920 till 1924 he studied at the Higher state artistic and technical workshops under the direction of V. Savinskyy and R. Eberling. In 1925 he continued his artistic education in Rome, Florence and Venice, where he met his future wife the artist I. Klestova. In 1926 they settled in Paris in Montparnasse in the same neighborhood where A. Breton and T. Lempytska lived. In 1931 he participated in the exhibition of the Artistic workshop "The Union of the Russians, who graduated from the High Educational Establishments abroad", in 1933 – in the Exhibition of paintings created by the artists of Montmartre and Montparnasse in the Gallery "34" at the Champs Elysees. Exhibitor of such salons as of the Independents (1936 - 1969), Spring Salons (1947, 1948), of the Salon "The Liberal Art" (1947), etc. Floral still lives and nudes of the master became very popular in Europe and the USA. In 1971 in the Salon of the Independents there was held a memorial exhibition of the artist.
