Sonje Jan Gabrielsz (1625 - 1707)

A Dutch painter. Born in Amsterdam. He studied under the guidance of the famous landscape painter A. Pynacker. Member of the painters' guild of Saint Luke in Delft (1646). He worked in Rotterdam (1654), and then he moved to Dordrecht, where he became the chairman of the local guild (1692). He made several creative trips to Rome. He developed Italian trend of landscape painting. His works are kept in the Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis in the Hague, the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, in the National Museum of Prague and in many others.
