Cabanyes Alexandre de (1877 - 1972)

A Spanish painter. Born in Barcelona in the family of artists. He studied at the School of Art of the island of St. Luke in Barcelona. Since 1900 he participated in numerous exhibitions. In 1901 he continued his artistic education in Paris. His personal exhibitions were held in Barcelona (1904) and Montevideo (1913). During 1920 - 1930 he lived in Munich. After returning to Spain, he settled in Vilanova i la Geltrú, of which he became an honorary citizen in 1957. In 1972 he was awarded the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise - the highest honorary award in Spain. Author of seascapes, portraits and still lifes. His works are kept in the National Art Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona, in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid, in the Library-Museum in Vilanova i la Geltrú, etc.
