Weenix Jan Baptist (1621 - 1663)
A famous Dutch painter. Born in Amsterdam. He studied under the guidance of the artist A. Bloemaert in Utrecht, then under the guidance of K. Moyaert in Amsterdam. In 1643 he moved to Italy, where he executed the orders of Cardinal D. Pamphilj. During 1647 - 1649 he lived and worked in Amsterdam, then he settled in Utrecht. Member of the Guild of Utrecht artists. Author of seascapes, genre scenes and still lifes with hunting trophies and animals. Representative of the "Italian" trend of the Dutch painting. His works are kept in the State Hermitage, in the Art Museum of Detroit, in Wallace Collection in London, Basel Art Museum, Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Central Museum of Utrecht, etc.
