Kluge Constantin (1912 - 2003)

A French artist of the Russian origin, painter, architect and writer. Born in Riga. In 1919 he emigrated to China, in 1923 he settled in the French Concession in Shanghai. He graduated from the French  college, studied drawing at the Art Club. From 1931 till 1937 he studied at the architectural department of the National School of Fine Arts in Paris. In 1938 he returned to China. He held several solo exhibitions, was a member of the artistic association "Atelier" (1942). In 1950 he settled in Paris. He worked as an architect, then he devoted himself entirely to painting. He painted mostly landscapes of Paris and portraits. He received silver (1961) and gold (1962) medals of the Salon of the Society of French Artists. In 1964 he took French citizenship. He held solo exhibitions in New York (1966, 1968), the Abbey of Saint-Maurice (1991) and Compiégne (1992). Commander of the Legion of Honor (1990).
