Janssens Rene Emmanuel (1870 1936)

Belgian painter, watercolorist, lithographer. Born in Brussels. In 1885 - 1892 he studied at The Brussels Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Jean-Francois Portaels, in 1892 - at the Paris School of Fine Arts under the guidance of P.-V. Galan. In 1890 the works exhibited at the Salon in Brussels, Liege, Antwerp and Paris. One of the founders of the French group of artists Le Sillon. Since 1898 member of the National Society of Fine Arts of Belgium. At the World Exhibition in Paris (1900) awarded incentive bonus. Also known as an art critic, articles were published in the Belgian and French editions. Member of the Belgian Royal Academy of Sciences, Literature and Fine Arts since 1934. He lived and worked in Brussels. He painted portraits, landscapes and interiors. Presented at the Museum d'Orsay in Paris, the National Royal Museum of Belgium in Brussels, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Art Museum of Liege, Ghent and others.
