Abessinova Elena Nikolayevna (1955)

A Ukrainian painter, graphic designer and illustrator. Born in Kiev. During the years of 1974 - 1978 she studied at the Kiev Art and Industrial College. After graduation she worked in the sphere of industrial design. From 1986 till 2000 she collaborated with publishing houses "Ukraina", "Radyans'ka zhnka", "Barvnok", and "Veselka". In 1986 she became the winner of the magazine "Ukraina" for the best magazine design. In 1991 she began working with the Swiss publishing houses and throughout the years of 1992 - 1995 she illustrated a series of children's books. During 1999 - 2001 she studied the art of etching and engraving at the Basel School of Arts. In 2003 the artist created two decorative panels depicting fruit and vegetables, which later inspired her to make a series of still lifes. She has participated in numerous international collective and personal exhibitions in Ukraine, Japan, France, Iran, Switzerland, Italy and Slovakia. Lives and works mainly in Switzerland.
