Juan Francisco Gonzalez (1853 - 1933)

The famous Chilean painter. Born in Santiago. Elementary art education got under the guidance of the Chilean artist M. Tapia. In 1869 - 1875 he studied at the Chilean Academy of Arts in Santiago. Permanent exhibitor of salons, took 3rd place in the Salon de Santiago (1884), 2nd places in the Salon Guy Oficial (1890, Santiago) and municipal exhibition in Valparaiso (Chile, 1896), 1-st place in the Salon Oficial (1900, Santiago), 2-nd place at the International Exhibition in Buenos Aires (1910) and others. Laureate of numerous premiums and awards. In 1900 - 1906 traveled to Europe and visited France, Spain, Italy, UK and Germany. Since 1906 he taught at the Chilean Academy of Arts. The author of portraits, still lifes, landscapes and hunting scenes. His works are kept in the National Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago.
