Lopukhov Olexander Mykhaylovych (1925 - 2009)
The famous Ukrainian painter, the outstanding master of thematic paintings and portraits, one of the best representatives of the realistic school. Born in Gorodnya, Chernihiv region. He studied at the Republican art school, then at Kyiv Institute of Art (1947 - 1953) under the guidance of O. Shovkunenko, S. Grygoriev, K. Elevi. In 1973 he became the head of the workshop of the easel painting of Kyiv Institute of Art, in the years of 1973 - 1985 - Rector of Kyiv Institute of Art, since 1979 - professor. Member of the National Union of Artists, from 1983 till 1989 - Chairman of the National Union of Artists. Academician of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine, People's Artist of Ukraine since 1964, corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR since 1975, the winner of the State Prize of the USSR named after T. Shevchenko (1980). He received many state awards, including the Order of Lenin, Red Banner of Labor, "For Achievements" of the 3rd grade. Honored Artist of Poland. In 2007 with the decree of Russian President V. Putin he was awarded the Medal of O. Pushkin for a large contribution to the rapprochement and mutual enrichment of cultures and peoples.
